Processors[edit]

Compaq Presario R3000 Memory Upgrade

The 3000 series sported an Intel chipset (Pentium 4). These chips came in a variety of speeds, ranging from 2.0 GHz to 2.67 GHz,) however performance varied only slightly between models. Noted that an R3000 Model has appeared with an AMD Processor (source: Model list on Compaq's site)

Specification[edit]

The notebook computers in this product range came with a Hitachi hard disk drive and a TEAC optical media drive. They also came with on-board Altec Lansing stereo speakers and Synaptics touchpads. These systems were preinstalled with Windows XP (though they were also designed to run Windows Vista). They were supplied with a Quick Restore disc which returned the system to its factory condition in the event of change of ownership, wish to reinstall the OS or system failure.

Main memory was upgradeable via two 200-pin SO-DIMM slots using DDR PC2100 or DDR PC2700 rated modules, and the memory controller addressed a maximum of 1024 MB (1024 MiB) RAM. The main memory was also the memory for the graphics processing unit. Sharing the memory in this way, reduced the usable main memory (as reported by the operating system) by 64 MB.[1]

Memory module technical details[edit]

  • 256 MB: DDR PC2100, CAS latency = 2.5, unbuffered, non-ECC, 2.5 volts, 32Meg × 64
  • 512 MB: DDR PC2100, CAS latency = 2.5, unbuffered, non-ECC, 2.5 volts, 64Meg × 64

Quality Issues[edit]

Compaq Presario R3000 Memory Slots

The speaker (placed below the arrow keys) tends to rust because of the palm of our hands resting on top of it. This makes the laptop discolored and it's not easy to repaint that part because any new paint applied clogs the holes and blocks the audio.
